Leading UAS Industry Event Returns to Grand Forks

UAS Magazine has released the initial program details for the 2022 UAS Summit & Expo, scheduled for October 4–5 in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Recognized as one of the premier unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) gatherings in the Upper Midwest, the event will bring together industry stakeholders, government officials, defense organizations, researchers, and emerging technology companies to discuss the next phase of drone innovation and deployment.

A new addition to this year’s event is a special pre-summit experience on October 3 at the Grand Sky Business and Aviation Park. Registered U.S. citizen attendees will have the opportunity to tour several advanced facilities through a self-guided visit, including operations connected to Northrop Grumman, General Atomics, the Grand Sky complex, and the Vantis Mission and Networking Operations Center.

Keynote Speakers from Government, Military, and Industry

The summit will feature keynote presentations from influential decision-makers representing both government and private-sector leadership. Scheduled speakers include members of the U.S. Senate, senior military officials, and executives overseeing advanced aerospace and defense programs. Additional keynote presenters are expected to be announced closer to the event.

These sessions will provide attendees with insights into policy developments, national defense initiatives, and the expanding role of unmanned aviation technologies across commercial and governmental applications.

Industry-Focused Sessions and Technical Discussions

The conference agenda has been shaped by a review committee to ensure the program addresses the most pressing issues facing the UAS sector. Presentations will cover a range of strategic topics, including:

  • The current landscape and future trajectory of the unmanned aircraft systems industry
  • Progress toward beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) operations
  • Expanding applications of drones across both large-scale and localized operational environments

Speakers and participating organizations include leading aerospace manufacturers, technology developers, academic institutions, and research partnerships working at the forefront of autonomous aviation innovation.

Opportunities for Startups and Investment Engagement

A dedicated segment of the summit will focus on early-stage companies seeking investment opportunities. Selected startups will be able to present their products and services directly to angel investors during private pitch sessions designed to foster new partnerships and funding opportunities. Additional details about the investment program and participation criteria will be provided through the event’s official website.

North Dakota: A Hub for Drone Innovation

The Grand Forks region continues to strengthen its reputation as a central hub for commercial drone development, supported by expansive open airspace and an established ecosystem of research institutions, industry partners, and government initiatives. Often referred to as a leading center for UAS innovation, the Northern Plains region hosts a wide range of commercial, military, and government aviation activities that contribute to ongoing advancements in unmanned systems technology.
