BERLIN — September 8, 2022 — UP42 has broadened its geospatial marketplace by adding optical satellite imagery from BlackSky (NYSE: BKSY). The integration allows UP42 users to task BlackSky satellites on demand and receive frequent image updates—up to once every 60 minutes during daylight hours in mid-latitude regions.

By enabling direct access to BlackSky’s satellite constellation, the UP42 platform now supports rapid, repeat imaging for customers who require timely situational awareness. This capability is particularly valuable for monitoring dynamic environments where conditions can change quickly, such as infrastructure networks, industrial sites, and areas of economic activity.

According to UP42 leadership, the addition of BlackSky imagery strengthens the platform’s ability to support time-sensitive use cases. The combination of last-minute satellite tasking and fast data delivery enables users to move closer to near real-time change detection and operational monitoring.

BlackSky’s offering is distinguished by its AI-enabled dynamic monitoring approach, which delivers actionable insights across a broad range of applications. These include mapping and navigation, commodity and market analysis, infrastructure protection, maritime domain awareness, supply chain oversight, and geospatial intelligence operations. The system is designed to provide decision-makers with timely information rather than static snapshots.

From BlackSky’s perspective, the partnership expands access to its current and future satellite capabilities. Company leadership emphasized that as global conditions evolve more rapidly, customers increasingly need intelligence that can keep pace with unfolding events. Through UP42, users can incorporate BlackSky’s high-temporal-resolution imagery directly into their workflows.

A key technical advantage of BlackSky’s constellation lies in its orbital design. Most satellites operate in mid-inclination orbits with staggered paths, allowing for repeated imaging of the same location from dawn through dusk at mid-latitude sites. This configuration supports frequent revisits and consistent daylight coverage, making it well suited for persistent monitoring scenarios.

The integration further enhances the breadth of the UP42 marketplace, which now hosts more than 160 satellite and aerial imagery products sourced from over 50 geospatial data providers worldwide. By combining BlackSky imagery with other datasets available on the platform, customers can develop and commercialize comprehensive monitoring solutions for both commercial and government clients.

UP42 users can begin tasking BlackSky satellites immediately through the platform’s online marketplace.
