The new application enables users—from individuals with no prior mapping experience to CAD professionals—to generate accurate, interactive indoor maps through maker.mappedin.com or the Maker App for iOS.

Previously, Mappedin’s indoor mapping tools were primarily available to enterprise clients with specialized expertise. With Mappedin Maker, the company has expanded access to its technology, allowing communities, schools, small businesses, and public institutions to create digital indoor maps without cost or technical barriers.

AI-Driven Indoor Map Creation

Mappedin Maker introduces a streamlined workflow for generating georeferenced vector maps of buildings in minutes. Users can upload a photograph of an existing paper floor plan or use the Maker App for iOS to capture spatial data directly by walking through a building.

Once initiated, the system leverages artificial intelligence to automatically identify and place structural elements such as walls, doors, and windows. The result is an interactive, digital indoor map that supports 3D navigation and wayfinding.

Origins in Homeland Security Collaboration

The AI-based automation underlying Mappedin Maker traces back to a partnership with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The initiative aimed to reduce manual effort in indoor map production while improving accuracy and scalability. That technology—originally developed under contract #70RSAT20CB0000014—has now been incorporated into the publicly available Maker platform.

Ongoing enterprise support and customer partnerships have further enabled the company to extend Maker at no cost while continuing to enhance its enterprise-grade solutions for advanced use cases.
