Latin America’s Largest Geospatial Technology Gathering

The second edition of MundoGEO#Connect, recognized as the largest geotechnology event in Latin America, was scheduled to take place from May 29 to May 31, 2012, at the Frei Caneca Convention Center in São Paulo, Brazil. Building on the success of its inaugural edition, the event aimed to bring together more than 10,000 professionals, including attendees participating in seminars, trade fair activities, and online sessions broadcast through social networks and webinars.

The event portal served as a central hub for updates, providing information for participants, speakers, exhibitors, public agencies, and private-sector organizations involved in the geospatial industry.

Strong Sponsorship from Global Industry Leaders

Several major international and regional companies confirmed their sponsorship, including leading organizations in surveying, mapping, navigation, and geospatial technology. Among the confirmed sponsors were major metrology and geospatial solution providers, equipment distributors representing well-known global brands, and companies offering surveying and positioning technologies. Their participation reflected the growing importance of the Latin American geospatial market and the increasing demand for advanced mapping, remote sensing, and positioning solutions.

Institutional support was also provided by national and international organizations, including government agencies, research institutions, and global geospatial associations, further strengthening the event’s international reach.

Expanded Program and Exhibition Activities

Under the theme “Sharing Information for a Better World,” the 2012 conference focused on the challenges of producing geospatial data that can be easily shared and reused across information systems. Organizers expanded the trade fair exhibition space by 50 percent and doubled the number of auditoriums available for technical sessions, enabling a broader range of presentations, workshops, and parallel events.

The program included seminars, training courses, and specialized sessions addressing emerging trends in GIS, surveying, GPS technologies, remote sensing, and spatial data infrastructures. Industry applications discussed during the event covered sectors such as oil and gas, mining, environmental management, agribusiness, e-government, and urban infrastructure mapping.

Awards, Parallel Events, and Networking Opportunities

The event also hosted the second edition of the MundoGEO#Connect Awards, recognizing outstanding professionals, organizations, and projects in the geotechnology sector. Additional parallel meetings and thematic forums focused on regional geospatial initiatives, user communities, and spatial data infrastructure standards, providing opportunities for networking and knowledge exchange across public and private sectors.

Continued Growth Following a Successful First Edition

The first MundoGEO#Connect conference in 2011 attracted thousands of participants from across Latin America and other regions, with strong engagement both onsite and online. Attendees included senior executives, government representatives, technical specialists, and academic researchers, reflecting the broad reach of the geospatial industry.

With expanded sponsorship, increased exhibition capacity, and a growing international audience, the 2012 edition reinforced MundoGEO#Connect’s position as a key platform for collaboration, innovation, and professional development within the global geospatial technology community.
